Abhimanyu Pathak, one of the most gifted and eminent players of the Indian Polo Circuit started playing professionally around a decade ago. A member of the Sona Polo Team, he has won almost every high goal trophy, along with defeating the opposition for twice in a row in the IPA National Open Championship. Determination and focus are what drives him.
“Live it. Love it. Dream it.” is what he uses best to describe his passion. His love for horses and the game keep him inspired. He happily recalls how watching a single Polo match led him to pursue his calling and embedded a feeling of compassion towards animals. As he mentions, his goal of becoming a +10 handicap player is not a cakewalk because it requires a lot more dedication and resources.
Pathak has trained a great deal in England and his current coach being a British native, plays a key role in increasing his fondness towards the country. The beauty of England and the prestigious tournaments make England his favorite Polo destination.
Abhimanyu shyly admits his inclination towards acting and how he would have chosen it as an alternate career option. Football is an another sport that he enjoys playing and has also represented Delhi at the State level.
His views, however, remained uncanny when asked about the future of Polo in India. Pathak feels that the sport undoubtedly has grown throughout the years but more support from the media and the government is still needed to take it to a high level. The media coverage of the events has made Polo a nationally televised sport, but the scope of improvement is not denied by him.
His favorite sportsperson is none other than the master of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar.
Pathak loves his horse and constitutes an immense amount of love towards the animal.
His game strategies always differ with the number of matches he plays as it keeps changing chukker by chukker and point by point. He also confessed that Polo as a game has changed and enhanced his personality, giving his life a new perspective.
