Cavalry Gold Cup: Opening the Delhi Polo Season On A High

The Delhi Polo Season kicks off with the Cavalry Gold Cup inaugurating the season at the Army Equestrian Club, Delhi on 6th February 2019. The 10-goal cup is one of the major tournaments of the season and will see 5 teams divided into two pools competing for the cup. The first ever Cavalry Gold Cup was organised in 1975. The Cavalry Gold Cup, instituted by the 61st Cavalry Regiment, started off as an exclusive military tournament. Today, just as the game, the tournament has evolved to become inclusive of commercial teams, making it a perfect fixture at the Delhi Polo Season.

The custodian of the Cavalry Gold Cup, the 61st Cavalry is the foundation of equestrian training in the forces and mainstay of sports like dressage, tent pegging and Polo amongst others.

The last year’s Cavalry Gold Cup finals witnessed Sona Polo face Rajnigandha Achievers. A taut battle between the two teams winded up with Sona Polo defeating Rajnigandha Achievers to lift the trophy.
