A CUP FOR THE MAHARANI
This is not the first time when India inspired the overseas’ citizens and this time India inspired the world of Polo. Maharani Polo Cup is organized and celebrated every year in Argentina.

Maharani Polo Cup was started in the honor of HH Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur. Maharani Gayatri Devi was a particularly avid equestrienne. Gayatri Devi was an excellent rider and an able Polo player. She threw extravagant parties but could be miserly with the servants, loved Polo and also champagne, was autocratic and mercurial. She was everything you would expect of a royal, willful, capricious, demanding, autocratic, beguiling, extrovert, oh, and definitely mercurial.

Maharani fell in love with Maharaja Man Singh II of Jaipur, who himself was a passionate Polo player. Married at an early age to Maharaja Man Singh II her life revolved around Polo. After the unfortunate death of Maharaja while playing Polo in London, Gayatri Devi continued his legacy and kept on supporting the “sport of the Kings” Polo. Inspired by Maharani Gayatri Devi’s life a mixed Polo tournament is organized every year in Argentina by the name of Maharani Polo Cup in which both girls and boys take part as a team.
