As the Delhi Spring Polo Season 2021 took over, the action at the national capital began with the four goal General Sparrow Cup. With five teams divided into two pools, the tournament started off from 24.02.2021 to witness the finale on Sunday, 28.02.2021. Here’s a quick glimpse of the entire tournament in a nutshell.

DAY 1:

Match 1- Jindal Panther vs Cavalry-RVC

Day1-delhi-season-la-polo

The first day of the Delhi Spring Polo Season 2021 had four teams in action against one another for the four goal General Sparrow Cup. Getting onto the field were Jindal Panther and Cavalry-RVC for the first match. As the match proceeded into chukkers, Jindal Panther evidently dominated the match, so much so that it defended their opponents from marking any goal throughout the match. Matthew Perry showed some excellent play and with the entire team's support resulted into concluding the play at 10.5 goals against nil. Just opposite to what was witnessed during the first match, the second match was a pleasure to watch. Keeping the stakes high and the match to just a neck to neck competition were Jindal Steel and Power and Col Girdhari Singh ASC team. While both the teams fluctuated with just half a goal on and off, it was almost in the dying seconds of the match that Jindal Steel and Power took over and with a splendid goal won the match with 6 goals to 5.5

DAY 2:

Match 1- Lancers vs Cavalry-RVC

Day2-polo-season-la-polo

As the General Sparrow Cup, 4 goal, proceeded towards the second day of play on the 25th of February 2021, it had team Lancers and Cavalry-RVC against one another. Before the match started, team Lancers were awarded with an advantage of 3.5 goals keeping in mind the Polo rules of team handicap while going in for play. Although Lancers had an advantage to their side, it did not help them much. For the first chukker, Cavalry-RVC scored just a goal, but slowly and steadily into the play, the team was able to make a remarkable mark especially as soon as the third started off. With team effort and an excellent play of dominance, Cavalry-RVC defeated Lancers with 8 goals against their 3.5 goals.

DAY 3:

Match 1- Jindal Panther vs Lancers

Match 2- Jindal Steel & Power vs Col Girdhari Singh ASC

Day3-general-sparrow-cup

The last league match of the four goal General Sparrow Cup had some eye catching action. While for the first Jindal Panther and Lancers came down to battle, it looked a little obvious with time that Jindal Panther would mark their dominance. Lancers were granted an advantage of 3.5 goals for the day as per the rules of Polo. Following which, the team was able to grab 3 goals throughout the match. In opposition to this, Jindal Panther entered the team with an already built pressure to cover the gap that stood prominent on the scoreboard. But within no time, and in the first chukker itself, with Akshai Malik in action, Jindal Panther was able to score goals back to back. There was no looking back after this and the team scored 9 goals in against 6.5 of Lancers. For the second match on the other hand, it was a tough situation throughout. Col Girdhari Singh ASC was provided with an advantage of 1 goal ahead of the game. And as the opponents stood Jindal Steel and Power. As the play began, Col Girdhari Singh ASC seized three goals building pressure on the opposite end. But as a great comeback should look like, Jindal Steel and Power in the following chukkers projected the play in such a manner that while it seemed the match would enter an extra chukker for the decision to be taken by the golden goal, Venkatesh Jindal grabbed the winning goal to sum the game up at 6 goals to 5.

DAY 4:

Finals: Jindal Panther vs Jindal Steel & Power

Day4-jindal-panther-la-polo

In one of the very few coincidences, the finale of the four goal General Sparrow Cup on 28.02.2021 witnessed the duo of a son and a father go against each other. As the tournament proceeded towards the final battle, Jindal Panther and Jindal Steel & Power were all set to come against one another. While Jindal Panther had the experience of Naveen Jindal with them, the opponent team, Jindal Steel & Power had the newness of Venkatesh Jindal . The finals were a treat to the eyes and a whole lot of emotions. In the initial stage of the match, the chukker had Jindal Steel & Power in dominance but Jindal Panther was quick to equivalize the score. From the end of the first chukker, there was no looking back for Jindal Panther and with Naveen Jindal and Matthew Perry in full coordination and action, the team marched towards victory with 7 goals to 3.
