T

he invention of the melodious instrument piano was accidental. Dated back to the late stone age, this instrument was discovered when the humans were preparing a bow for hunting. As one of the most common musical instrument today, it allows multiple sounds to pitch simultaneously by pressing keys.

Here is the journey of how the piano was invented and how it has evolved over the years.

During the 3rd century, the piano was shaped as a pipe organ and was used in ancient Greece. It was called chordophones as it used to use the vibration of strings instead of air. It was later then known as clavichord, during 14th-century in Europe.

Contrary to this in 1709 piano was named “pianoforte” and considered to be introduced by an Italian man named Bartolomeo Cristofori. According to these historical facts this keyboard on the wooden frame has had many improvements over the years and finally, the present day piano is the latest version of it. These dual facts and information still do not clarify the actual history of the first piano which was invented during ancient civilization.

But summarizing all the facts and historical evidence, Bartolomeo Cristofori is considered as the father of piano. After numerous tries, he finally created the first satisfactory model of the piano in 1720.

He also invented the instrument by the name Una chorda that used to create sound with vibration handling one string with a pedal. This invention is still featured today at some places.

Initially, it was not decided as to how many keynotes would be there on the keyboard, but afterward, the pattern was set.

Later in the 14th century, another form of the piano was given name clavichord and the harpsichord. Even they were quite famous during that time but the invention of piano took away all its popularity during the 18th century. It was much easier to play it as it could produce many kinds of sound with the keys.

The next invention was spinet this was indeed a pattern that was widely used amongst people. It was given its name after Giovanni Spinnete who invented it.

During 19th and 20th century the piano evolved and took various shapes until its present one. Some historic facts mention that Gottfried Silberman (1683-1753) had also crafted types of piano those were some what similar to the Cristofori one. But since they were too heavy and huge they were preferred less.

Today the shape and appearance of the piano have evolved over the time. There are electric pianos, electric synthesizers those produce multiple types of sound. The computers also play a key feature to regulate sound and even customize it according to your choice.

With solid historical significance, the piano is now a worldwide used instrument to create melodious sounds.
